Château Ksara, founded in the Bekaa Valley in 1857 by Jesuit priests, is Lebanon’s oldest ‘modern’ winery, advancing Lebanon’s rich winemaking heritage for over 150 years and laying the foundations of the today’s vibrant wine industry.
The Jesuits knew what the terroir could deliver. With its clay and limestone soil, hot summer days and cool nights, generous rainfall and snow in winter, and with vineyards planted at between 1,000 – 1,800 meters, the Bekaa Valley is perfect for producing wines with freshness, balance complexity.
The grapes are hand-picked, destemmed and pressed. Fermentation, initiated by wild yeasts, takes place in old concrete tanks built by the Jesuits, is carried out at a 22°C, with a skin contact period of 15 days before being vatted for 12-14 months prior filtration and bottling.
The Carignan has a deep purple hue. On the nose, it offers intense red and black fruits with spice and garrigue aromas. The palate is fresh, full of blackcurrant, strawberries and plums fruit underpinned with spice, juniper and oregano. The finish is long and sustained.
